Another try on JD plow.

What model? Is it worth dragging down the mountain? All linkages seem free but I have no idea about the ground drive. I have no use for it but hate to see it rust away.

Is the hitch there and just buried in the dirt? If it's missing, sure, haul it down, but don't stop at home. Keep going right to the scrap yard.

Looks like a #55, couple of bottoms missing.
Looks like it used to be a 3-bottom plow and someone didn't have the HP, so removed the front one instead of the rear. It is not close to original by looking at this picture.

I would bring it home, looks like a three bottom 55 originally. Missing bottoms should be fairly easy to find as most all John Deere standards, frogs and bottoms will interchange. You have three tires that will not go flat so that is a plus. Good luck, Mike

As I previously stated Diamond shaped bar on rear of the plows in each photo is oriented different which requires different mounting brackets therefore I think plow in question isn't a model 55

I am pretty sure that backbone orientation like a diamond is for the 55 plow. Backbone laying flat or square is for a 55A plow. 55 and 66 truss frame plows used the complicated cast bracket and diamond orientation on early versions. A series went to all flat steel brackets and square layout. Mike

In my plow book the cast bracket started 1n 1938 thur 1946. In 1946 they started with the flat bracket. After the war steel for the regular consumer became more open for industry. john

is it even a JD plow? I haven't found a picture of a Deere trailer plow yet that has that diamond bar. I'll keep looking though . . . .
Evidently you haven't viewed photos that I & other members have posted!! Square aka Diamond bar is shown in several previous photos on this thread

I saw all the pictures. You said it wasn't a 55 because of the diamond bar, so I went looking for pictures to see if the model could be identified. I hadn't found another picture that compared to it to make a model ID. I have since found a plow in the YT archives that is said to be a 66, with that diamond bar. So with that and what mijohn posted, it is a JD plow.

I came across this old, old thread on YT with info from Bob Collins, as well. Confustication . . . . https://www.yesterdaystractors.com/cgi-bin/viewit.cgi?bd=implment&th=85645

IMHO just because plow model was listed at an auction doesn't actually mean that is the correct model #.

I think due to orientation of that square bar on rear of both plow models that OP's plow is neither a model 55 or 66.
