Another Tuff Torq Problem

I have a JD L120 with only 238 hours. The K46 transmission is shot. It jerks and rattles. Yes I did use for pulling loads probably more than this tranny can handle. So now I have to figure out whether to junk this whole POS or try to fix it. I know theres a K46 rebuilder on eBay. Which means I have to remove the tranny and open it up, get the bad parts out and send it in. Or find a junked JD 100 series with a good tranny for cheap. Definitely not getting a new K46.

I've been wondering if a K61 can be swapped with this K46 without any modifications,

Its been years, but I designed packaging for both of those transmissions. And from my memory, they are nowhere near alike.
Have you tried a fluid change?

Or is there any heavier duty TT transmission that can can be swapped with the K46 without modifications?

I doubt there are any that can be swapped without any mods.

Parts are available direct from TT.
K57 or 58 can be swapped but there are a lot of variations, even K46 from different mower makers are not identical. TT made a lot of different control and mounts to suit all of them.

If it were mine, I'd first try changing oil with a 5w50 full synthetic. Doesn't cost much and can work wonders.

I contacted TT and they said the only swap without mods would be another K46A from another L120 or a L130.
