Hey all you JD B owners, I have a 1937 B & a 1944 B, how do you mix your antifreeze??? I was thinking of putting it in out tractors from now on.

If you mean percentage? 50/50
Pour 1 gal along w/gal of water into radiator fill can. Then pour into radiator.

I run antifreeze in my 35 D and 37 A. I have had no problems. Buy you 5 gallon of strait antifreeze. In a clean 5 a gallon bucket put 2 gallons of water in the bucket and 2 gallon of strait antifreeze in the bucket. Stir it up real good and check it with a antifreeze checker to see how many balls are floating. I mix mine until 5 balls are floating. If its not floating 5 balls I add some more strait antifreeze to the bucket until it floats 5 balls. Pour it in the radiator and mix up another bucket full the same way. I dont know how much your B will hold but my A hold about 8 to 8.5 gallons. I dont mess with that 50/50. Its cheaper to mix strait and you know what you got.

You need to pre-mix the anti-freeze with water before putting it in the radiator since you don't have a water pump. If you don't pre-mix, it may not circulate. I learned the hard way on an A JD without a water pump years ago.

Mix 50/50 in a bucket before dumping it in. Also add some conditioner. Test batch before pouring it in.

50/50

You could do it the easy way and buy the premixed stuff if you don't mind paying for water.

I buy the straight stuff whenever I see it on sale.

I'm not too scientific about mixing it - dump two gallons into a 5 gallon bucket - fill with water about a gallon less than full.

Dump into tractor with a wide funnel.

the filling and dumping action will mix it well enough. No need to stir.

Cover and save what you don't use.

I go with the chart on the jug--where I live it gets down below -40ºF (without windchill), so I think my mixture is 60/40 or even 70/30. As others have mentioned, make sure you pre-mix, as your engine will need to get VERY hot before it will start to mix on its own--I learned that the hard way.

Better to mix a stronger solution than not, when it comes to antifreeze..

When I check my "B", the hydrometer float rises well ABOVE the print on it..!!

I add some anti-corrosive additive every year..
