Antique Farm Class Pulling

Apparently no one knows what "antique STOCK farm class" tractor pulls are anymore. I took sixth out of 12 tractors yesterday, and spun out in first gear, but the 5 hooks that beat me were pulling in 2nd and 3rd gear! This has happened twice in one week now at two different pulls! A stock JD A can not spin out (on sticky dirt/clay) in 3rd gear in a 6000# class. I'm not going to loose any sleep because I cheated, but that seems to be the trend now. What say you???

Molineone,
We all hear you. Once, and only once, I was tapped to tech tractors at a pulling contest. Out of sixteen tractors in one class, I tossed out fourteen of them and they were made to pull in a modified class. Everyone knows I am a Moline man, but the only two tractors that passed my inspection were a Ford and a Farmall.

Both pullers that passed the pure stock class were kids. I am talking about those that have not yet won a drivers license. The 'adults' that were bumped up to the next level of pulling behaved at an age level where most begin to walk around without diapers.

Anyone knows that I could put together a mean set of gears that would probably pass about any tech inspection. I just refuse to set a bad example. I regularly help any young puller with advice, and parts, even if they do not sit on a Moline. I try to act like an adult. It is a good thing that I do not take part in the local tractor pulls, any more. I love to see the kids have fun; even when they lose. Ever wonder why there are so few young people coming into our sport?

Happy Motoring

Charlie and molineone,, here in the north east it has got so bad that I am thinking about giving it UP!!!!! I pull a STOCK U302 and G705 both LP , very competive tractors when it is apples to apples . I am not going to modifly them for a damm trophy ,, this year we have a speed limit of 3.5 mph for the stock class . Hopefully the 1000 cu. G John Deere's and 100hp M's will go to the MOD. class were they belong ( thanks,) Bob Jones

I am still trying too find a "BF" Moline with a factory K&N air filter. Moline I am sure would have used them like on the Farmall C or allis chalmers did on thier "CA". Case also used them on VAC model or at least all the "farm stock" tractors pulling here in North Mississippi do. I also don't remember those tractors having 13.6x24 or 14.9x28 tires when I was a kid.Memory must be failing me. P.Luna

I have a UB diesel that is not quite stock anymore, but it doesn't have enough power to pull second gear yet. I have lots of fun with it. I think a speed limit would solve the problems of tractors that run in third gear. But it also comes to the honesty of the driver.

In MY OPINON what is stock? If anything on that tractor has been rebuilt it is not stock. Yes you can put back in original size but 9 out of 10 you would go bigger. I am new to where I live now and am not excitied about pulling here. The last 2 years - 1 pull. The 5 years before 5-8 pulls a year. In MN we ran a mix of Div 1-3 as stock anything else was open. I ran a 49 MM UTU that the one I bought it from said it was about 52 -54 hp (not stock). I pulled against a JD G @ 82hp. Very few close to original hp. I won some lost some and now and then an old F30 would come out of a barn for the 1st time in 20 years and walk away from everyone. The speed and where you put the weight makes a big difference. Keep the speed under 3.5 and you will keep tractors from 2nd and 3rd gears.

Well, it should be a tractor with ALL STANDARD factory supplied equipment and accessories as supplied for that tractor model during it's time/era of manufacture along with the common overbore-pistons/sleeve-piston kits available for the tractor model at the time/era of manufacture. Weights used limited to what was available and placed on the tractor at the regular applications at the time/era of the tractor model's manufacture.
Sounds good don't it? Don't worry, it'll never happen.......
