anyone work with tile? had a young man drive up from south of fort worth to oklahoma city to tile a shower for me,says he 's not wanting any pay since hes sort of helping my wife out,but thats way beyond the call of duty so i want to pay him.whats a going rate for tiling a small shower, any one know?ive bought all the material hes just supplying labor and know how,but I want to pay him right since hes going out of his way to do it.couple of days tiling and grouting.any ideas?

Wait..410 mile round trip...8 hours on the road and 20 gals of fuel.....100 for time and fuel is 4/gal another 100. All together...400.

Wait again....he has to stay over night and eat? Add another 100....make that 500 even. That'd about do it.

How do you know this guy? He is helping out your wife? What???? Is he staying in your house?

If you want to pay him you need to cover travel miles at 50 cents per mile + pay him $25 per hour for the labor.
A good tile skilled guy like that has to be worth $25 per hour likely more.

couple hundred a day plus miles---or you might see if he likes to hunt and fish. good to see someone helping out, and I know how you feel about paying your way--good on ya jack.

For local jobs. I charge about a buck to a buck and a halve for each square foot of surface area. If I have to travel a long way I for a small job, I charge based on 2 days pay(assuming it is a small enough job that 2 days will lay and grout it.

I hired a guy fresh out of the service with four kids to help me on weekends, wife knew him from church. his real job had him working out of state, so this young man thats his brother came up to help out so we could get done with this mess.(it getting fishing time!) seems to know what hes doing. Why does this stuff look so easy when you watch someone else do it?

I agree with Wondergem. If done right, leaks shouldn't be a problem. Never had a leak in any tiled shower inthe last 40+ years.

That means wrong product used or particle board somewhere in the wall swelled up. Done right it won't leak or all the rich folks would have leaky moldy showers.
