Any work getting done?

Anybody getting any field work done? Was gonna open some ground Sat. but ended up getting 3/4". Hay is almost ready to cut, but worried about rutting them up. News shows flooding in the middle of the USA.

Soggy but steady here in SE MN. Seems to rain just as the ground gets fit. Been testing the lights the few times we?ve been able to roll.

Overall we?re in ok shape and have to be thankful for when looking around and see others truly suffering.

Since I got done we have had 2 nice days and 3 without rain. Raining now. I would say locally about half is in over all. I was worried about mine because it was wet and got lumpy where I spring plowed, but all this rain has melted those lumps down. Now as long as it dries enough so the seed doesn't rot I'll be fine. Looking for thing to come up this week.

Jon: did some spraying had to use the Minnie MO as they say "Case cannot keep the pace" he he. BTW no center post there either!!

Planted corn and beans over a week ago. We had a dry open week and busted my butt to get done. Finished beans a week ago Friday nite at 8 and was raining at 9. Rolled the bean ground yesterday and is raining as I type. Hutterites put corn north of me a month ago...wasn't up yesterday but is this morning. E SD.

I think in the county where we live less than 50% of the corn has been planted as of today and we received over 3 more in of rain today. I have been able to plant only 14 ac out of 180. I myself will not plant anymore corn as we can not meet the May 31 deadline for full crop Ins. I will take the prevent plant option of our coverage and call it a year. Almost no soybeans have been planted in this area. Rod.

I have about 25 acres of beans in.Had to put duals on and notill it in due to ground too wet to disc.I should be putting in corn but getting late so went with beans.A neighbor no tilled in 160 acres of beans due to same soil conditions and he has four wheel drive. He used his older 6 row planter instead of 12 row to cut down on weight.

No crops in here to speak of. Myself, I'm grazing hilltops and slowly moving into lower pastures. It's just saturated here. We should be starting to hay by now. It's gonna take at least 2-3 weeks to dry out. Hard to say what the summer will bring at this point.

John, The only crop I have in the soil is some alfalfa that the hay mill planted Saturday. Then it rained again. We are told it will rain most of the week and tonight 1 to 2.5 " to come down. No crops in the fields around Lake ERIE JUST WATER. Jerry from Ohio

Some neighbors have planted corn in their light soil towards the Sioux River. I cannot till the wife's garden, plant anything in the field, or even spray pastures. All the old abandon gravel pits have water running out of them. I have never seen them even 1/2 full before. I think we have had over 20 inches of rain since April 1st. They used to say 16" was normal for the year. Prevent plant is looking likely, but what do you do with the weeds? Very little seed, fert, or chem sold. Lots of calves lost from blizzards, cold, and mud. Lots of sick calves. Drove past a neighbors tree grove and smelled something dead. Found a pit full of dead cows and calves. No profit for farmers. The trickle down effect will go deep, well beyond main street! East Central SD.

If you can't plant, what about feed for this winter?? Going to be a lot of people looking for feed. Talked to a guy in SW Mn that was looking for seed oats for cover crop and some feed.

John,

Had 26 acres of corn in until yesterday, got 40 planted yesterday and this morning until the rain started again... Thank God for this sandy soil and gravel hills this year. It rains every third day-just about when you can disk and plant again. Many people in NE WI have nothing planted yet. It's getting to the point we will have to abandon the low spots as they will never dry out in time. There is literally no hay left around here, every old barn was emptied out and all the crappy round bales are gone as well. I sold hay to a young guy that was coming from 110 miles away. So, the feed situation will be critical. The "big boys" are gonna learn just how hungry a thousand plus cows can get. Don

I am very small potatoes here in NW Mo compared to you guys--sweet potatoes. I have 150 plants I need to get in. It is plenty muddy but am hoping I can get the VAC and plow to turn the strip where I will plant them. I can do it in one or 2 passes. Supposed to rain alot about 4pm. Going to wait till the last possible moment to try it. After today no rain forecast for a couple days. If I get the dirt rolled over today, maybe I can plant by Friday.

Western PA here. I was prepared, equipment ready to roll, and took advantage of a small window of decent weather. All plated but 5 acres of pumpkins and other novelty type stuff. 75% of the corn is even sprayed.

Lots of neighbors took advantage of the nice weather to cut hay and service their equipment. at most, the area is 50% planted.

Supposed to have at least a 1/2" of rain every day for the next week.
