Anything better than jb weld?

Any suggestions for a product better than jb weld for plastic repair? I'm trying to repair a cracked but not quite broken off (yet) throttle control on an old DR trimmer. JB weld has not worked...
Thanks, Ben

I have had better luck with the 2 part epoxy stick that you mix together by hand. You can get a good even amount from the sticks but with JB Weld the mixture is iffy. There is a better product than JB weld or pCB-7 sold in boat stores(West Marine() called Marinetex. I have used it for lots of different repairs including gas tanks. It harddens better than JB or PC . The stick is still the best. Henry

deavcon putties like plastic steel putty oraluminum steel putty, they have a plastic only repair putty also but ive use the plastic steel putty on about everything and think its about the best.

I assume your trying to repair( bond together) a piece that's cracked, not necessarily "cover" a crack like you'd get in a gas tank, etc. In that case most epoxies I can think of aren't going to work on the plastic for that type of repair. That said, try looking in the McMaster Carr or MSC catalogs. There are adhesives made that are designed to join parts together like I'm guessing you want to do. If you don't see what you want or don't know what you need both place have tech support that can steer you in the right direction.

i"ll agree with HENERY E NC Marine tex is the way to go in most places. Gray is alittle stonger than White and they have a rapid set that works go to. Gray 13000 psi compression and white is 8000 psi approx.

Not sure exactly what type of plastic you have or if it will melt right. I usually fix plastic of the right type with a 30 watt soldering iron. Works pretty good just have to penetrate just like welding. Fixed the throttle on my weedeater that way.

I heated mine up with a hand held torch and fused them together, using an ice pick to bond strands together.

VERY METICULOUS job.. took me a half hour of heating and fiddling with a good joint.

If you have access, drill a hole through the part perpendicular to the crack through both halves. Then take a steel wire or nail about the same size or slightly larger, heat it up red hot and shove it into the hole. Ive had pretty good luck fixing quite a few "ungluable" pieces this way. Jeff

3M makes an aircraft 2-part epoxy that works real good: 3m-3501. Might try an internet search and see how it goes.
