I recently purchased an unstyled late production 1943 AO. The drivers area looks so different from the later AR I have. This AO is hand start complete but still original, it runs good as well. But the gearshift stuff looks so different from the regular As of the same time frame, like it only has 2 gears with a high and low stick like the early As. With everything looking like the early unstyled As does anyone know what engine it has in it? Is it the earlier one? Also should I keep this tractor looking original or repaint it???

Got any pictures? The larger engine (321) was introduced in 1940.

yes i can send a picture. but as for the new engine was it put in the AO when the gears were not updated?

Sounds as if the trans on your AO is very similar to my '45 BO. 1st & 2nd gear and a hi-lo(2 speed) for 4 forward gears & 1 reverse.

Yes,changed in 1941 I believe.You should get a parts book and make it easy for yourself. I'm sure you'll have more questions.

Many people are still suprized to find that john deere gave the AO the larger engine (1/4 inch longer stroke) way back in 1936.
