Are All Overrun Clutches Created Equal?

There is a large range in prices for overrun clutches out there... Now that I have completely rebuilt my hydraulics and put in the new conversion PTO shaft, I do not want to use my old clutch and would prefer a new one to help ensure the PTO shaft doesn't get damaged again (hopefully). I do run a brush hog so want to make sure I have a high quality overrun clutch.

So, suggestions on a brand, model, etc...????

Thanks...

If I were you I would buy the push button
type like below.
Lets you quickly remove the ORC so you
don't have it spinning all the time just to
use your lift.
10 times faster to remove one of these than
the type you have to drive the roll pin
out. You're much more likely to remove it
too = Safer.

Thanks for the info... I found it here on this site...

Look again, this clutch is 1 and 3/8s to 1 and 3/8s. If you have the smaller pto shaft, won't work. joe

May I be so bold as to point out:

In my case, with the complete rebuild on my hydraulics and the need to cut the shaft out, I installed a new conversion shaft so the 1 1/8 to 1 1/8 will work on mine. I just ordered the quick release one from this site.

You don't make sense. You say you ordered a new conversion shaft. The new shafts are 1 3/8". The ORC you ordered here is 1 3/8" X 1 3/8". You said 1 1/8" above.

Oops, my bad... One of those days for brain fade I guess.... I put in a conversion shaft that changes it to a 1 3/8 output shaft..

That's what I thought. No one makes a quick release ORC for the 1 1/8" shaft anyway.

Not sure of brand but it is for 1 1/8 shaft purchased from the old Central Tractor store. I grease it often and its lasted 35 years so far. I mow ~ 20 acres with the brush hog twice a year.

How long to wear one out?

I just received the quick release one that I ordered here on Yesterday's Tractor. It slid right on and locked just fine. Came back off just as easy. I haven't connected it to the brush hog yet to try it out but looks great at this point...

The quick release ones are great. Grease it every time you use it. Take it off and put the cap on when not using it. That way your OCR is out of the weather and your PTO shaft is protected from the weather.

Thanks. My new PTO conversion shaft didn't have a cover with it and when I bought the tractor it didn't have one. Right now the ORC is in my shop on the bench and my tractor us under a roof so out of the weather. I need to find what cover will work with my new PTO shaft...

Evidently you didn't buy the PTO shaft from here on YT. Their shaft comes with a PTO cover on it.

No unfortunately. I didn't see the one on here when I was looking.. Found it after I had already made the purchase elsewhere. Normally I buy here.
