Are new distributors pre timed?

I bought a new front mount distributor for my 2n. I put it on the tractor as is and got to wondering if these things are pre timed or not. The tractor is still not running right now, but I am not sure if it is due to this or other reasons.

the front mounts are made to install only one way due to an offset tang drive.

set it's timing adjustment and points per book and see if you can at least get her started, then go from there.

Don't know if yours was timed or not, but I would check it. ANYTIME points are moved, re-adjusted, replaced etc, timing needs to be reset. It's unlikely timing being off a bit on a front mount distributor would cause no run. Might make for hard starting though.

I think that was a poor choice of words.

What he meant was "Has the timing been set on a new distributor? ".

I bought one of those distributors recently and while I am satisfied with it so far, be sure to check the point gap. The points on mine were just barely opening, and in order to get them to open the full .015 I had to remove the washer under one of the hold-down screws.
