Are the removable?

Are the studs on the maincase that are used to hold engine block removable and replaceable? Any ideas on a part#. I dont see one in the parts catalog it only shows the main case with them in and no part#. one is broken off so i can not put a nut on when the engine block goes back on. its the upper right stud.

Yes they come out. The threads are a different class of same thread on the end of the studs that go into the main case. This is so they're less likely to back out when you're removing the nuts. The threads are a tighter fit in the case than the nut end. The end of the studs that are rounded or domed a little bit are the nut end.

Don't know if mother Deere still offers up studs but you can grab one from pretty much any tractor bone yard out there.

Jerrymouse,

I have a scrapped case for a '37 B. Your welcome to have one of the studs, Just email me your address.

Look on the page in the parts book where the block is. Thats where they are listed for my late A.

jerry

they are removable, it may take some work but they do come out,

they are 5/8 studs there are 2 lengths of studs used as per the parts manual, B2484R are 3" long (4 used) and
B1333R are 2 1/2" long (3 used) they have a number 5 tapered thread on one end, to help lock them into the main case, deere still sells them but they are pricey, you can probably get away with getting normal studs from a bolt and nut supply and using thread loc

The threads that go into the block are oversized to bind as they tighten. I've always had to use pipe wrench with cheater to remove and install.

Hi J-41,
One way to get a grip on the studs is the old double nut trick. It worked on my 35A although a couple of the studs were pretty tight. Good luck with your project. VH

just finished up. i was able to back the stud out after seperating the tractor and removing the cyllinder block.i just grabed the stud with vice grips and tapped them with a baby sledge and pb blast.took longer to remove all the other stuff. stud came out 1,2,3... if life were always that easy... now time to order parts and clean everything i took apart. thanks for the insight i'll be back for sum more....thank you
