I thought my roll starting problems were over with my 648 baler until I got into some dry slippery ditch grass today. So it welded in some keystock and welded a few tips on the rods. Heading back out. I'll let you know in a few hours.

Nope. Don't work. This is some first cut over mature 4 ft tall dried out slippery grass. My square key stock didn't help. One thing I forgot to try was starting bale driving across windrow. Some say that might help.

Just got in from rolling 18 2nd cut grass clover mix. Never missed a beat. Start every bale top speed. So now I know it is not the baler but the hay. Went to try that long slippery canary grass again. Drove across windrows to start the bale. Nope plugged up first thing.

Have you run a tedder over the canary grass? Having the stems tangled up going all different directions should help it start the roll. The Same idea as driving across the windrow to help start a roll. Good luck!!

Our 688 needed the clutch disks on right side replaced, with the triangle bolted keeper....
