attaching doglegs

Hey guys, I'm putting the hood back on my 671. I think something is missing where the doglegs connect to the front axle support assembly. There's two square holes and that's where it was bolted when I got the tractor. Problem is the inside edge of the doglegs were touching the radiator and caused leaks in the radiator on both sides.

I can't imagine a round bolt going into a large square that would require large washers. The parts catalog is pretty vague in this area.

I believe they originally used carriage bolts for that location so that the bolt wouldn't turn as you titened the nut . I hope that helps some . Good luck & God bless, Ken

They did not use a carriage bolt.They used a caged square nut that cliped into the square hole and probably long gone. I do not know why the dog legs would get into the rad.

Thanks for the responses guys, I figure something is askew. It's not obvious though. Although, there's some good size dents in the doglegs behind the bumber. Possibly the bumper wasn't always on the tractor.

I put bushings in there spreading the doglegs to keep them off the radiator and now the bottom is too wide to catch the pins on the lower grill. I took the radiator in for repairs and I don't want anymore damage to it.

I'll come up with some way of securing the lower grill and then I'm golden. Again, thanks for the replies.

There are 2 holes on each side. The upper holes are for the 800/900/4000 series, the lower holes are for the 600/700/2000 series (smaller gas tanks). I used 1/2 inch carrige bolts going out. I didn't use any washers on the outside.
Where the dogleg and the upper hood join there should be 2 rubber bumpers. The bumpers keep the radiator and the doglegs from hitting each other.
Could that may be what you are missing?

There aren't any rubber bumpers Keith, so that's probably whats missing. Would the bumpers sit on the radiator or the gas tank?.

Imagine a brick with a slot on the back side. The slot is placed over the joint. The face of the brick would hit the rad. Clear as mud right?
