ATV PULLING

Has anyone tried ATV and side by side pulling at any of their pulls? WE currently do farm stock tractors, pickup trucks and garden tractors at our tractor club pulls. We are looking to expand our horizons with ATV's and side by sides to increase participation from the community in competition pulling.

Was to a local pull one time where at the end of the day they hooked a big boat of a car to the sled, filled it with drunks and pulled it. Another time they hooked a motor home to the sled and had the drunks hanging out the window on that one.

You may find this hard to believe, but in the 1980's the local Kawanis sponsored an antique tractor pull at the rodeo grounds which is right beside our armory. I was a full-time employee at the armory and the night of the pull one of our guys said "why don't we see if they will let us pull a military vehicle in the pull just for "s___ts and grins. So the pull guys said sure, after the tractors are done". We were an artillery unit equipped with the M110A2 Howitzers so of course our guys wanted to go that route. Well, the result was a full pull and the sled didn't even slow the howitzer down. So, following that someone suggested we try pulling with the all wheel drive "Gamma-goat" so we tried that and the goat bogged down with loss of power from the GM 2-cycle 3 cylinder which was pretty gut-less. The spectators liked it. I don't think the word ever got to HQ of what we had down. We called it a recruiting event. I don't know of any photos that were taken.

When I was a kid (1980s) ATV pulling was popular around here. I had a Honda Big Red I pulled a couple times.

Haven’t seen any ATV pulling in years since then though.

We have considered it, but our sled is too big and the time and cost to build a new sled has been the main reason we haven't.

back in the day i was track manager at a pull in gainsville texas the national guard had a m60 tank on display they asked us if they could hook to our sled we said yes and they pulled it out the end around the bleachers back to the start line the driver asked me where did i want it
