Automatic airhose reel

My dad is wanting one for his birthday. Harbor Freight has one on sale this week. Not to concerned with hose quality as we have a very good hose to put on it. Any one have any other suggestions?

I got one of their hand crank hose reels. They say it will take 100' of 3/8 ID hose but I didn't believe it. Well it sure did and some. Very impressed.

I have three that use 3/8X50' hose I brought at northern tool for $79. They are used daily I have not had any issues with them. They are by no means a $400 Cox reel but what can go wrong with one other than it may need a O-ring replaced in time.

I have a few I paid $300 for I had rather use the Northern tool reels...

As for a hand crank reel I as soon roll it up and hang it on the wall...

I love my hand crank reel stays where I put it and pulls out so easy, especially around shop tools.

I bought one about two months ago. I think it was around 50 bucks. It came with 25' of hose and no problems yet. My shop is 40 feet deep, so I mounted it up high (above tractor height) and in the middle. It reaches everywhere.

We use the HF ones at work (2 dozen). We replace about one every month and a half, but we are rough on them. Very rarely do the springs fail, normally the hose goes. We have the ability to crimp on new ends which we do after the end fails from being flexed, run over, covered in fiberglass resin etc. Note some have lasted many years. When I put one up I will use HF. Good news is that the end screws into the reel pivot, so worse case you get a new house and replace the one that came with it. They aren't real good for constant sun exposure.

Got one for about $65 from Northern Tool Supply? a few years ago, mounted it on a swivel near the shop door. Works fine, but the 50 foot China hose cracks every few months, right at the bend on the reel. Cut it off a foot, reattach...getting short fast.

I have a 25ft and a 50ft and like both. I would not buy a 25ft again though, just not enough hose. I found you can adjust the tension for roll up which means the real won't be jerking it out of your hands and slamming the reel. Worth the money.

have two 100'reels, 10 plus yrs old, snap-on 350.00 apiece these are 3/8 line. have a 50'1" hose reel for the big guns all working good. you get what you pay for!!

I've got two 50' automatic hose reels in my garage. One was from a swap meet, supposed to be a "better" one, and the other is a HF.

The better one got its hose replaced after roughly 6-8months, and now it is slow to wind up the last 6 feet or so. the HF one- still working perfectly fine 3 years later.

We bought 1 for the tire shop many years ago, wore out the first week. In a home shop they would be ok.

Problems are hose quality and hose length. I think HFs are only 25 ft. I got a HF manual wind up, modified it and put on a 50 ft 5/8 hose.

I have one. As you said, the supplied air hose isn't the greatest, but the reel itself is fine and a great time saver. I had to replace the hose on mine when it cracked where it bends at the stop. Cut the leaking part off and it works fine as an extension.
