Turn the tractor upside down. That way the shavings will fall out while you drill and tap.

I was under an upside down Cub in a creek years ago.
Cub was still running and gas dripping out on me.
I could reach up and turn it off thankfully.
No fun.
Logging bridge collapsed.
Just some broke ribs and bruised legs.

Any good jockey in the old days would have used JB Weld and sold it.

Seriously though, stuff the cylinder full of rope to keep the shavings from going in, then drill it and use a Heli Coil. Use a magnet or shop vac to get the shavings before you pull the rope out and you should have them all.

Hit a small hidden washout many years ago with a super a. Turned it 4 wheels up. Managed to jump clear as it rolled. Bent steering wheel and broke muffler. No other damage.

Steering wheel and column got my legs and right side axle housing broke.
Bottom of creek was soft or I would have been hurt a lot worse.
Repaired it and sold it.

Tool Magnetizer / Demagnetizers can be found cheap. One could turn your thread tap into a magnet and pick up the shavings as it cuts.

Do not forget to use Loc Tight on the insert. Otherwise you could pull it back out if you ever need to remove the plug.

I don’t know what insert you would need. This is the most popular there are no telling how many of this type I have used and never had a problem. Make sure it’s a steel insert.

Piston down far enough the tap will not hit it Tap and blow out then crank it up with the spark plug out life will be good.
