Axle Hub lock nut

Does anyone have any experience (positive or negative) with the Axle Hub lock nut part number LN 10-21 being sold by this sites sponsor? If so, how do they work? Does one tighten the inner nut to 450 foot pounds and then tighten the outer nut to the same torque value? Or does the inner nut tighten "snug" and the outer to the high torque value? Thinking of buying them.

"Thinking of buying them."

Why?

If your axle/hub is worn like the one in the picture(the axle extends past the hub) a magic nut isn't going to keep the hub out of the bearing retainer or brakes.

as bruce said.

what are you trying to accomplish.

those locknuts primarily are for axles that have bad THEADS. if the threads are wore so that a regular nut won't thread on or snug or whatever, a 2 piece squeezum nut usually works.. or you can repalce the axle, or retread it.

I have use the smaller ones on front hubs prior to rethreading..e tc.

they work for what they are designed for.. won't help a worn hub/axle SPLINE issue as Bruce points out.

pminyard.........the 2-part squeez'um 8N rear axle lock nut works as advertized. Tighten the inner split nut to as tight as you can, then add the squeez'um nut to more tightly grip the HARD axle thread, then try tightening the split innernut summ-more. Repeat as much as you can. Remember the original 2-in rear axle nut was supposed to be tightened to 450ft/lbs.

Biggest problem of the 8N's rear axle is the 6-spline hub is SOFT and wears eazily iff'n not kept tight.

Unless yer sphincterly challenged, no need to buy or rent a $600 3/4" drive torque wrench. Justta good grunt on 6-ft long cheater bar will do just as well.

They work well, I have them on my eazy starting 6-volt 52-8N. It came with them. .......Dell

The hubs and axle are perfectly flush. However, I am rebuilding the tractor and the old nuts are shot, thought that I would give something new a try---in the hope that sometimes new is actually better...
Bruce: A question and comment: Your 50 tips--thank you, invaluable. Regarding the amount of 90 weight gear oil in the transmission et al; I plan to use your method of filling to the bottom of the inspection port...does this result in enough material to lubricate the wheel bearings? The 8N I have is an early model without the inner seal.
