Hello all, I'm not on here much, but I have run into a dilemma with an overhaul on a B. I am having a heck of a time getting a rear cam bearing in the block without distorting it. I have had an engine shop install 2 with both being distorted. I removed the second one and inspected the block and used some 220 grit sand paper and tried to clean the bore. I didn't find and dings or so forth in the bore. Everything appears in order. I tried a 3rd bearing with the same result. Any ideas?

Are you using an installation tool? A piece of steel turned to just fit inside the bushing, same dia. as the camshaft bearing journal, that has a lip that the bushing will stop against to be driven into the block. Normally such a tool is long enough to allow you to steer the bushing in straight as you tap it in.

I found I needed a driving rod long enough I could see I was in the center of the bore from the front of the engine. I have a brass tool from the 1960 with 1/2 threads in the center like what 4wdtom said.

I have a long 1/2 rod I use for the center and reat cam bearings
