b farmall wide frt ?

did the B farmall ever come with a wide front ? i have never seen one but...got a call from a guy saying he has an B for sale with wide front i tryd to tell him i dont think the b had wide frt but he says he knows its an B but he then got mad & said dont bother coming to look at it i changed my mind.. im gonna send a buddy over to look on sunday but was just wondering as u all see more things then i do

I don't know if the Farmall B had a wide front from the factory. I do know that the Allis C was not built with a wide front end. There are people who have taking the wide front end off an unservicable model B, and replaced the narrow front end of an otherwise great model C with it. Some local shops can fabricate a good wide front end, that in most cases are better than what the factory would have produced. Even If Farmall did not produce the B with a wide front end, there is no reason that someone couldn't upgrade to one if they had wanted to. The only way that this would be a problem, is if you want the B as some type of collectable. If you are looking for a wide front end tractor with all that the Farmall B has to offer, you may well be on to the best of both worlds.

Most you see like this are either As with longer differential shaft and housing put on the left (making them more like the width of a BN) or Bs that have had a wide front (from an A or elsewhere) mounted up.

Things for your friend to check are the chassis serial number (On a plate on the inside of the left seat support). If it's there, the prefix of the serial number will tell you what the tactor started life as, esecially if the numeric part of the ser# matches the # on the engine (on the block, just below the number one plug, kinda obscured by the throttle control link to the governor). The chassis # should start with FA. The third position will be the model #, as in FAA or FAB (or even FABN in the case of a BN). He should also look to see if the wide front is centered on the tractor. Also, on a true B, the right-hand seat support, looking from the rear, is mounted to a bracket on the seat support so that there is a gap of several inches between the seat support and the fender. On As and BNs, the right-hand support is mounted to the final drive, so that there is very little room between.

Simple answer is no they never came with a wide front, but what he has maybe an A which did and to some people an A and B are the same other then the front ends but there not there different models but used the same engine and a few other parts

No, they were not equipped with a wide front from the factory.

But over the years someone may easily have adapated a wide front from something else to one.

I have a friend with some hilly land that owns a nice B. It has a belly mower on it, and he used it to cut the grass. A few years ago he had some health problems and his daughter wanted to keep the grass cut to help him out.

He was concerened about her inexperience running the tractor on the hilly ground, and asked if a wide front could be fitted to it.

We installed a wide front from an A on it, and in his mind he felt much better for her safety.

He kept the orginal narrow front, just in case he ever wants to return it back to orginal or sell it to someone else.

We all have seen custom things made and used on farm equipment. Whenever my dad saw something like that he would say; "Looky at that, it's been "Farmer Made" to suit someones needs".

Sure would not be the first time someone had a tractor and didnt know what it realy was. I was told to leave when i was looking at a B that had an aftermarket seat all i said was that seat is not factory he said leave now and dont come back. The B never left factory with wide front but i have heard of countys or hi-way depts putting A fronts on them. I had one i bought in ROCKY FORD COLO that had yellow paint under the hand painted red so what can you make of that.

Allis Chalmers C could have an adjustable wide front from the factory, but not the fixed wishbone frontend. These were B only. Later B's had the adjustable fronts like were optional for the C. B's never had a narrow front option.

It seems to me by your word choice that your feathers are ruffled with my post. No offense intended. I was just clarifying your statement of "No Allis C's built with a widefront end from the factory". That was not a correct fact. You may not have known that they could have come with a widefront, and that is fine. I learn new things everyday, and often it is from this site. However, I thought you may like to know that a widefront C is not necessarily a front end off from a B. If you don't care, well that is fine too.

That's fine, and I'm not ruffled. I didn't feel that a few obscure C's with a factory wide front end, changed my point that simply because it didn't come from the factory with a wide front end, that it is any less of a Farmall B, unless of course, you either want a collectable or a narrow front end. By rewording the sentence, I hoped to show that my original point remained. It wasn't intended to show anger, of hostility.
