what the best way to get to the pto bevel gears in late model b , do i have to take of the reduction gear cover?

If you need to replace them, You are looking at removing all the gears in the tranny, and I think you will need to split the tractor too. Removing the reduction gear cover is just the start.

Not sure about the late styled B, but on the early styled B the first reduction and gears, both transmission shafts and gears, shifter forks and shaft all need to be removed. The rear cover/power-lift housing also needs to be removed. You do not need to split the tractor. Those pesky gears are the first thing you assemble in the transmission and the last to come out. It is also a good time to replace anything questionable in the transmission.

Split it where? Its one piece except the reared, which does need to be removed, yes

you do not need to remove the rear end you work thru the top of tran case and can replace the two gears and shafts this way

Yes,

Splitting the tractor between the main case and the rear end is what I was talking about. As Kent says, It may be possible to remove it through the top, but it is so much easier to remove the differential and work through the rear of the main case. Splitting the tractor is pretty easy anyway, and this also gives opportunity to replace the differential bearings while you are at it.

Additionally, the only way I know of to replace the PTO bushings, if this is needed, would be from the back of the main case.

A lot of work no matter how you cut it.

got the tractor split and differental out i neeed to replace the gears and bushing but how does transmission come apart, i can do it just need to no the secrets to do it the easy way, thanks for all the help
