B&S 6.5 IC, can't start.

I've got an Agfab leaf vac with a briggs 6.5 hp IC engine. Has been running fine for years. I shut it off to empty the hopper and now I can't get it to start. Its getting good spark, the plug is dry, I've squirted gas into the carb but it won't even pop. I dropped the bowl off the carb and the float valve lets gas thru and shuts it off when raised. It has a safety switch on the suction fan but with a spark tester it shows good spark. It is a recoil pull rope start. any help appreciated .

I wonder if it is the valves. Or a chunk of carbon on a valve face. You can try putting a squirt of oil in the cylinder through the spark plug hole and see if that helps.
Check the valve adjustment.
Check the flywheel key. If it shears the spark will be occuring at some time other than proper for the engine to run.

What TRK and Tim said. Other ideas: Does it have a low oil level shut off and if so, how is the oil level (good spark probably means this isn't it)? Does the plug actually fire? Try putting gas directly in the plug hole and starting.

Pull the valve cover and look for a bent push rod. The aluminum push rod on the intake valve are known to bend or break.

If you find a bent or broken push rod on the intake. It can be replaced using a steel one for the exhaust valve. Both are the same length and diameter. Just ones steel the other aluminum.
