b2434r oil retainer

After 3 years I am finally putting my John Deere 50 back together. I kept all old parts just in case. While putting the sliding shaft back together in the transmission the left hand bearing calls for a oil retainer #B2434R. I do not have it and believe I never had one installed since it was not with the old parts. How important is this piece? Can I make something or do I have to pay the $50 bucks for a new one? Thanks

It acts as an oil dam to help lube the sliding gear shaft bearing. Probably not the end of
the world not to be in there. How long and hard do you plan on working this tractor?

I do not plan to use it rough, it has been in the family and do not have much land. It has more sentimental valve and a lawn orniment.
