B414 help needed

A friend of mine got a B414 . It has some sort of vaccum advance disributor on it and is missing the rod(?) from the governor to the carb PO used a coat hanger . After it runs awhile it starts backfiring,popping sputtering till it dies. He has rebuilt the distributer ,plugs ,wire etc It worked for a Lil while but now same thing. I think the missing rod is not keeping the engine and carb in sync . I have yet to find one and don't know anything about it. Any help on parts otlr what might be the problem would be great. Thanks

Your symptoms indicate a coil (or possibly condenser) that fails when warm, or restricted gas flow.

As to the missing linkage you can find a parts breakdown at the CIH Parts Store website. GOOGLE it, as I can't post a link from where I'm at.

I agree with Bob, sounds like coil or condenser. I would bet on the coil.
