Wouldn't a 3500 have 3000-style axles with drum brakes and the small lug bolt pattern? I don't know industrials well, but I'd say this is a 4500.

I have a hard time telling if the rear lugs are the big or small pattern, but you are right they do look large. A 3550 would have the double reduction rear though, but the loader shown on a 3550 in my '74 catalog is a mix between a 735 and 740. It mounts to the hard nose like a 740, but has the boom pivot pins and lower boom cylinder pins supported on both sides like the 735. I'm stumped.
Looking at the picture again, is the backhoe a Ford? The outrigger ends don't look like the ones on my 755.

Thank for the info, where on the unit should the serial number and ID plate be located? Is there a place on-line where I can get a description of what all the pedals and knobs do(not for the hoe and the loader, there self explanatory)all around the drivers seat? , Once again thanks for the help!

The most evident differences between a 3550 and 4500 would be the engine displacement and power steering cylinder & linkage. 3550 should have the same draglink style cylinder/valve as a 420 industrial and 1976+ 4100 all purpose. 4500 has the bolster mounted P/S cylinder similar to a 65-68 or so 5000 all purpose.

I looked at my '73 catalog. Based on the loader, I'd say it's a 3550, not a 4500. Don't have the catalog right here to compare, but outrigger ends look right to me. Think there were a couple ends available.
Rear tires look big (tall)- look like 30" to me.

Model/serial/unit numbers are stamped on a flat just above and to the rear of the starter. They are also on a foil tag under the hood, above the battery, IF the tag is still there.
