Backhoe transmission

Fellas,

I have a Parson's backhoe with a T98-1R 4 speed transmission. This is an odd ball backhoe.

I found a replacement with the same number above on the internet at a reasonable price. Would I be safe to assume I if I ordered it that the input shaft would be the same diameter and number of splines, length?

Not sure what the -1R designation that Borg Warner stamped on the unit.

Thanks for your help on this.

I would suggest you contact the seller and get any measurements needed confirmed. That would be the surest way to know what it is.

Borg Warner T98 transmissions were used in trucks. Not sure of the significance of the 1R suffix. You can look in a Hollander Interchange manual to see what truck applications your trans was used in. Hollander manuals and software are what the wrecking yards use to see what parts are interchangeable. I have a T98 out of a '68 F250 I'd sell reasonable if it will fit your application.

This site won't let me edit my post......turns out the trans I have is probably a T18. Shouldn't be that difficult to find parts or a used T98. Do an internet search for Borg warner T98 application. There's some good info out there.

Jim, took your advice, glad I did. No repairing this tranny. Missing teeth, front bearing gone etc..
The input shaft is about 4" long 1 1/8 inside if splines and 19 spines in total. No info on the internet. My thought is to purchase a 11 spline ford tranny and use my input shaft in the donor. Mine appears to be Ok, will have it out today for inspection. Had no idea there was so many variations for these old transmissions.

Thanks
Nate
