Backhoe?

Was there really a backhoe for the 9n. I have a 9n from the transmission back. I was thinking a back hoe would be nice for irrigation ditches, saw this on my local craigslist today. the add made it seem like it covered allot of machines. Anyone used one of these

ive seen film footage from the 1950's showing a backhoe attachment on a N but i think it was a 8n, not the 9n, i would think that unless the tractor had a auxillery pump the hoe would be very slow to dig with but it might be fine if slow, for use around the house or farm,[ after all it would beat a shovel and pick] you also might go look at the 3 point fully self contained backhoes for compact tractors everything is powered off the tractors pto, they might work too [ be sure you are sitting down when you ask for prices these things are not cheap]
 
Looking at those cyl sizes.. I'd think it would HAVE to have a pto or stinger pump. I can't imagine that onboard 2.85gpm pump doing anything with a sherman digger.. :)

Check out this clip from You Tube it was called the Silent Revolution it shows a job site in Levittown PA back in the 40's all most all of the equipmet was Ford N series tractors had back hoes, trenchers, ETC.
you can tell its old everyone was smoking in it LOL and enjoy.

It would be a monstrous load for an N. Bear in mind that some of the 4000s were Industrials and had beefed up rear axles and side frames to handle the stress of a BH. And 4000 had about double the HP of an N to boot.
If you need to dig a few rocks, remove some tree stumps or dig a foundation rent a mini excavator.
They are great fun to operate and a couple of hours in the seat you'll be nearly a pro.
