Bak or front

When growing up Dinner was at 12 noon, Supper was at 6PM or later.
Right on, lunch was after morning chores, around 10, sandwiches and coffee. Sometimes more lunch around 3 depending on what was going on that day. Big dinner at noon, and many times a little nap was snuck in. When the day started in the barn at 4 you needed it. Larry

Another post got me wondering. On a farm yard does the front of the house face the yard or the road?
Wife and I disagree on this. I say yard and she says road.
But what if you have a quarter mile long driveway? She says don't make any difference. Always called front nomatter how far the road is.

Here's the North and South sides of my house. County rd. Goes by the North (first picture.
Thanks for posting, this is an "important" discussion point. My shot is the front faces the road, the back door the farm yard, although it gets all the traffic. My wife and I differ and it will never be solved. We're on a 2 bit gravel road with the only traffic being the mailman around 1, we don't have any school bus traffic anymore. Oh, almost forgot, the refuse hauler once a week. Larry

Glory Be, you are both right, in your case ! Both architecturally and league terms. It just happens that the Front , architecturally, speaking faces the Road and the area in between the two is your yard !! Legally speaking your front yard is the area between the road and a line drawn parallel the side of the building facing the road from one side of the property line to the other, be it the front or the side of your house, as zoning laws dictate !!! Now for amusement, their are some houses with two front yards one side yard and a back yard ..

In the placement of MY house, I could care less what the Federal Incident Command System says!
I didn't see that there was anything in this thread about moving your or flying Belgians house. Neither you nor he would have any knowledge of what ICS says unless you had a fire, and even then it is not likely that you would catch on.

One house we lived in was 2 front door one but the front was no longer the front after the state moved the road to the other side several hundred yards.

Old farm houses often have 2 or more additions as the farm prospered and the family expanded. The original main house can evolve into a summer kitchen or back rooms. Most of the old (1800s and early 1900s) houses in Western Iowa that were within sight of a road had a door and porch on that side of the house regardless of which door was used as the main entrance. The front door usually faced visitor's parking.
