baker multi valve

I am installing a baker multi valve on a '52 A with ad on live power kit. When I took power troll off, I found that the block off plate that should have been installed when they put on live power hadn't been. Installed one, have pressure in powertrol, works rock shaft, but no pressure in baker valve. Instalation sheet shows a model 950-200 to be for this application. Hard to find. Have model 950-250 that fits 50,60, and 70 tractors. Pressure piped into bottom of powertrol. Had a guy suggest baker model didn't matter, but that it needed pressurized first, before powertrol box? Any suggestions? only fitting on baker valves I've seen are on bottom of operating valve with 1"NF threads. ANy suggestions and help appreciated...thanks.

I'm also thinking one size fits all and 100, 200, 250 model are indicative of basic setup differences on ONE model.

Thank you! Only thing I lack is in finding the 3/8 hole near bottom they refer to. I have three of these including the one I am installing on this application, and none have these holes. There are along the side where your outlets would be piped, but powering any of those would in turn bypass the internal valve and make all outlets "live". The only other tapped orifice in the 1" NF plug on the very bottom of the internal valve, to remove valve for service. In removing that plug, there is a small bypass duct that goes near where I thought it should have been fed anyway. May try that. A 950-200 box may be different, and I don't have one. Currently have ad asking for one, but how many late A's or B's having a live power pump installed AND baker valve 950-200 were ever conceived let alone still out there for usage. Your bulletin was most appreciated though! Thanks again!

So knowing how extremely frustrated I was trying to install a confirmed model 950-100 here (top nameplate riveted on) because of poorly written nonsense instructions, I headed out to the tractor to take some pictures but since I painted everything green and there is really nothing to look at anyway, I had me a good look at the unit in bright sunlight today just the same.

I think I have discovered their bottom 3/8 NPT supply hole, it exists as a cut out into the protrusion of the main 1 inch NPT bore hole which is the main valve unit running vertically from the bottom protrusion on up internally. The 3/8 port is plugged on mine with a flat faced, screw driver slotted pipe plug from what I can tell. The bottom protrusion is also plugged with a flat faced, screw driver slotted pipe plug but this one is of the 1 inch size. Quartering towards the center line of the multi-valve and on the tractor side of it is a 'cup' cutaway in the protrusion's body to allow the placement of the 3/8 NPT supply hole and again on mine it is plugged by a nearly invisible flat faced NPT pipe plug. The slightest amount of grease or grime would fill that slot and make it disappear entirely.

There are only two access points on the bottom, one is a one inch NPT plug and the other is a 3/8 one that is partially drilled into the protrusion of the one inch NPT hanging off the bottom of the unit. One will have to use a two or three inch 3/8 nipple to screw into that supply hole in order to the get the open end of the nipple far enough down away from the main valve protrusion in order to thread the supply line onto the nipple anyway - pretty tight quarters right there.

Been wonky for quite some time now too, but used to work pretty good a decade or so ago.

I am going to watch this closely as I have an "A" without the baker valve and another parts tractor WITH the baker valve. I am considering putting the valve on my "A" during the rebuild. Would I be better off just swapping the whole setup instead of pulling the baker valve off the parts tractor ?? Best bet to do the swap as a whole -not parts it out?? Any suggestions???

I thank everyone who helped with info that is both old and sometimes obsolete. I had installed several of these just NOT on an A with live power conversion. They are fed differently and yes, there is a 9/16 drilled passage on the bottom. One of mine had retractable screws and I had to modify the slightly the bottom housing and drill and tap for 3/8. Once oil supply was directed that way, it worked. Again, not a lot of A',B's, or G's were converted to live power and dealt with this way. Now another generation knows!

If your A has the standard pto operated hydraulic system, it doesn't matter. Install new new gaskets A1447R available through JD. You will have to modify the seven bolt holes in the gasket from 1/2" to 5/8" to slip over the stud extensions that will be under the baker valve. The outer gasket between the baker valve and power troll box works as sent. If you have any problems, just ask. If you're wanting to use this A, a Baker valve was a nice design and easy (for most part)to install option. I have one on a 60 and now a 70, both with 3 points, and love them.
