bale baskets

looking into getting bale baskets to pull behind small square baler. Dont seem to common here in michigan. See a lot of bale throwers and wagons but think I dont have enough HP to go that way( farmall H & IH #46 baler). Just wanted to know how users like them and what used ones sell for in your area. It dont matter about unloading because they haveo go up the elevator to the loft.
thanks for your input.

ran three of the units for several seasons, wish i would have kept one. Used in the 1000 to 1500 range. If you unloading into elevstor just open the gate and don't drive ahead this keeps the bales closer and you are only walking the width of the wagon as the bales will slide to you. to do this you will pull along side the end of you elevator.

Back in the day I used to bale with a NH that had a Briggs & Stratton powered thrower.
It worked pretty well.
When I could get the engine started, but that's another story.

Basket should work well for you. H doesn't have a lot of hp & no live pto, but if you are used to it it'll work. I use an IHC 300 with TA, so independent pto & 10 forward gears is nice.

'Here' I see them sell for $600 when I didn't want one; when I was in the market took 2 years to find one for $1650.

Basket needs a hitch centered under the bale chute. JD will do that, NH like I have needs a fabricated hitch to center it; I don't know what an IHC baler has.

Other fella has it right on unloading, if you drive away the basket will leave a long pile of bales covering a big area; best to open the gate & just pick the bales from there.

Typically $1250-1750 at auctions here in n/w WI, depending on condition and brand (EZ Trail usually are at the upper end of that, as they are newer and a bit heavier built. The original hay baskets, Pro Quality, typicaly top at about $1600)

I run 3 EZ trail units here in Michigan. I paid $2700 new 16 years ago. Now they are priced for around $3700 new. The used ones I have seen at auctions go for around $2500, for that price I would just buy a new one. The new EZ trail wagons have a double caster wheel set up in front that makes going down the road a smoother ride and track better. One bale basket will equal 2 to 3 kicker wagons because of the time it takes to unload even though the larger kicker wagons will hold more hay. I do a tremendous amount of delivering were I just pull up to a stop and pull the lever and keep going.
