Baler on Interstate

Can I pull my round baler down the interstate with my truck in Texas and Lousiana? I have lights and a SMV sign. If so what is my max speed? Thanks

Someone will be sure to correct me, but the way I was tought, the answer would be no.
SMV, fanny flag, indicates max capable speed of 25 mph.
Minimum speed on interstate in most states is 40, some states 45.
If the implement is hauled on a truck or trailer, the SMV must be removed or covered.

My take..........no to the SMV sign; no to implement tires at interstate highway speed. What I would do is mount some old truck tires on the rims, check/repack the wheel bearings, stick some magnetic tail/brake/turn signal lights on the baler, use a 'log' chain for a safety chain and hit the road. I've pulled a baler across several states.........though not LA or TX.....with no problems.

You have a couple things that tell me no way. The first is the SMV sign. Slow moving means unable to travel at the minimum highway speeds. Second is the lack of the plate. Your state laws vary from others, but something known as an "impliment of husbandry" is not permitted on interstate roads. This would be anything that is not required to be plated.

we've pulled farm equipment all over from the carolinas, to new england and west to about indy or Ill. we are in PA, we use magnetic lights. cops said if the unit isn't loaded they weren't worried about the "not for highway use" tires. dad sells farm equipment and I deliver for him once in awhile when I have the time. trailer gets used very little. the wheel bearings are the same as a trailer, just grease/tighten before you roll out. Having a "clevis" type hitch gets you out of of most of the trailer type registration stuff. oh, we do safety chains too

I pulled it on a state highway, baler has lights that I hooked to truck, 200 miles, no problems, very little traffic. Johnny
