baler twine

i bought a couple boxes of baler twine today. i put it in the shed when i got home. i noticed the boxes looked different than the one i had on the shelf. the old one said "proudly made in america". the new boxes simply said bridon usa. when did bridon start making the twine in Vietnam? doesn't really matter, i'm just curious.

The prison in Minnesota made twine back in the day, along with their Minnesota line of machinery.

It got a bad name when the twine stopped working, it would tangle and ball up. Folk figured out the prisoners either made a mistake or intentionally put the sleeve and identifying tags on upside down so the ball wouldn’t unwind correctly. If you put the ball of twine in upside down it fed properly. Dad said he got a lot of cheap twine at auction sales as the name got a bad reputation from that; just had to look at the ball of twine carefully and see which way is proper. I suppose this must have been back in the ‘50s?
