balest rester

RGM......I flunked mind reading, just ask my ex-wife of 32-yrs. We need more information, like what is yer battery voltage? What model of tractor?

Would you believe the "infamous ballast resistor" is like a light bulb? It either works or it don't. Iff'n yer burning up yer "rester" then you can't be "frying yer points". Its the LAW, Kirchhoff's Law.

Now when you can form a more coherent question, 'stedda' making us play guessing games, we'll probably be able to help you. But first you gotta hepp-yerseff. We don't charge for excessive or miss-speilled words, so use lots of words, ok? ......respectfully, Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

8N front mount. Got this about 3 years ago and it does not have a ballast but has the converting resistor. One of the regular posters told me to add the ballast resistor. I keep putting it off, probably my coil will burn out like he said.

I found out the hard way that if your coil wire is loose and flops around and lays on the hot manifold, and then burns through, it grounds out and destroys your ballast resistor and ignition switch. Check your wiring.

Get a new ignition switch and resistor and then hook it up but check all your wires first. Make sure none are grounding out anywhere. Then do the points also. Check resistance on the coil. Dell can help out most here...

RGM......I still don't have a clue what VOLTS yer tractor is running. This is VERY important.

And yes, iff'n you by-pass yer "restor", it will BURN up yer points and yer ignition coil. There is NO NEED to bypas yer "infamous ballast resistor". It is generally very robust. And the consequences of by-passing the ballast resistor it BURNED POINTS and MELTED squarecan ignition coil. And NO SPARKIES!!! Simple, eh? .......respectfully, Dell
