Ballast resistor

Need opinion. Tractor is converted to 12 volt but I don't think there is a ballast resistor. I burned out a coIL that was not very old, and said right on the side no resistor required.

Do I need one anyway?

stever.......In the days of before Die-Hards, batterys died eazy. Ford used an electrical trick called a ballast resistor to compensate fer that known weakness. Round can coils are generally bullet-proof. Iff'n yer roundcan coil burned out, guess what, it was 6-volt coil being operated on 12-volts. Lotta bubba conversions use the $3 el-cheepo trick of 12-to-6 volt converting resistor 'stedda $14 12-volt roundcan coil. Unfortunately fer electrical nuiebies, ALL resistors look alike.......Dell, who has an FCC 1st Class License so I know a little bitt about electronics

Back around 1958 I too had a first class FCC license with ship radiar endorsement, but technology has changed so much that today I even have trouble using a smart phone....... Never did learn how to progrom my VCR. LOL
