Bandsaw wheel special?

Old bandsaw (gift-non running) needs wheel retreading, but the wheels have a depression in the center, will the blade track?
My years of experience has always shown, the wheel face NEEDS to be higher than the edges for flat belts????

Only one way to find out. Usually the tracking can be adjusted to center the blade. I would sure try it. If the blade can't be centered/held as needed, putting a filler in the groove under the rubber might work well. Epoxy or JB weld applied then sanded to smooth ! Jim

Maybe. The tires should be crowded. But, if running a 1/2" blade on an 1 1/4" wheel it may not matter much.

Pictures/ Make/ Model would help. A lot of tires are glued on and ground on the bandsaw. This ensures the tire is concentric.

I rebuilt a Craftsman bandsaw for a winter project and it had wheels with a square edged depression on the periphery. The tires i got from Sawblades.com worked perfectly once I got them on.

If you look closely, there is a crown in the bottom of the slot. The slot keeps the correct tire where it should be, and the tire will have a crown on it when it conforms to the crowned slot. Both my bandsaws have the raised edges, and both have a crown down in the center of the groove. If yours does not have the crown, then the tire will need to be thicker in the middle than at the edges, like Stan suggests. steve
