Received an email today from a YT friend who was recently banned from the forums for an unexplained reason. I’m a follower of Steve’s and I’ve never noticed anything nasty or political from him. Curious as to what has happened. stevieb4982 is his YT name. Thanks for your help.

stevieb49829 was active at 6:30 this morning. I don't know how that could be if he's banned.

Maybe he can read but isn't allowed to post presently, I don't know, but he does show as being active on the site.

In any case if he, or anyone, has a question about their status it seems best, to me, if the person with the affected status reaches out to the site admin directly themselves to discuss the issue. I doubt a third party is going to get an answer to something that is between the admin and a user, especially on an open forum.

It was an early morning clearly political post. I read it and knew what was going to happen. The moderators keep telling everyone to stop and recently posted what would happen if they don't. Guys we HAVE to stay away from politics here!

I’ve been in contact with Steve through text and email and and he says it’s not him on the forums right now. Claims he can’t get on at all to contact any one in administration but someone using his “handle “ is making posts. Is that possible.

Account hacks have happened on other forums. Some of them have implemented two factor authentication. If they do that here I can't imagine many folks would have the patience to figure that out.

The admins have the means to make an educated judgement about how likely that is in this case. I'm not a fan of educating bad actors so I'll leave it at that.

I'm back, thanks to several friends here, and the admin staff. I still have a concern that I appear to be posting on the site (or at least lurking), and I have not been. Especially today. I only use my PC, and I wasn't home all day today until about an hour ago. And I couldn't even venture onto the site yesterday because a banner came up as soon as I clicked my shortcut that said I was temporarily banned. Thank you Justin, for putting me back up. And a huge thanks to Kevin and Jim. You know who you are and you are the best. steve

As far as bans go, banned members are still able to view the site, but they cannot post.

For the user in question I have messaged with him personally and he has been reinstated.

As a note, it is entirely possible for a couple reasons you showed as active while you were not:

1) Browser caching - the forum software uses extensive caching for all kinds of data points to enhance performance. This merely means things are stored on the client's (the user - YOU) browser and are refreshed after a certain amount of time. If a user was recently active before being banned, their status may still appear as “online” until the cache refreshes.

2) When you were banned you were logged in and therefore "active" without logging out - and unable to do so. Technically, "active" but not actively using the profile. This is called "session persistence".

3) As @Non-farmer mentioned... I won't give any bad actors any hints but let's just say "Security".

I can say with 100% certainty the account was not hacked, we take the security of this site and our users very very seriously!

Sorry for the technical mumbo jumbo, just want to make sure everyone is fully reassured that there are no issues in that department.
