As far as bans go, banned members are still able to view the site, but they cannot post.

For the user in question I have messaged with him personally and he has been reinstated.

Thanks everyone!
Justin, just for info: In my case I was not able to view the site. I couldn't read forums, nor even bounce between them. My profile was "locked" at the initiation window, where the banner (pun intended) was pasted. The only thing I could do was contact the parts portion of the site. I know you don't want to add to your workload, but having a contact method available somewhere on that screen would have helped my blood pressure. steve

I think that is a pretty simple enhancement I can implement. Thanks for the feedback!

I have made some configuration changes to how bans will work going forward. On my test account I used the "new" ban process and as you can see the forums are all visible :

In this state the users can View, but not like, comment or post themselves:

The main change here, is that the "Contact Us" form will now be visible and usable by people who have been banned:

Users that are currently in the old ban state will stay that way for now. Moving forward I will use this to give people a chance to plead their case if there was a misunderstanding as was the case yesterday. I am doing this in an attempt to ensure fairness, objectivity and give people a chance to return to the forum in good standing.

Hopefully this can help continue to foster a positive and respectful community, thanks everyone!

Well, in a way, I'm glad my post (or the reaction to it) went this way. I'm sincerely happy that I can keep being a participant. And JKane went above and beyond to fix this situation into the future. For anyone who finds themselves banned, please do a massive self-reflection before you fire off a scathing letter using this new feature. steve
I know this isn't what happened, but somebody created a new account one time using what looked like my name, but they added another r and went by rrrlund, and was making a lot of enemies in a big hurry. With all of the numbers that are in your name, it would be real easy for somebody to just change one number and make a new account that would, at a glance, look just like it was you posting.

I also got caught up in a sweep and was banned one time, along with several others who weren't banned by mistake. A simple email to the moderators got that cleared up and they admitted I was banned by mistake.

Thanks, Randy for the insight. I do remember one other poster did get hacked, and it took a while to make that go away. My problem was I had no way of contacting Admin, until MHN found me an email address. JKane jumped right on it and fixed it once he realized I wasn't Count Dracula. From what I can infer, it wasn't really my post itself, but the responses to it that got political in a hurry. I wasn't quick enough to have viewed any of the responses before it was poofed. Good, quick responses by Admin. I appreciate their work to keep the site clean and considerate. steve
