Barley Per Acre?

How many lb's of barley should be planted per acre? Going to be taken off for grain in the fall...

I seed 2 row at around 2.25 bu/acre and 6 row around 1.8bu/acre "here". I'm sure its different else where.

What is 2 row and 6 row? Never heard that type of terms. Years ago Grandpa tried to raise barley for hog feed, we just drilled it the same as winter wheat. Only problem was getting it to dry down for harvest, no moisture testers avaible. harvested it using same determining method as for wheet, stored it in small wood bin in graniery. The darn stuff molded. only year it was tried. Combine was an AC 60.

We had our plow day yesterday, and I offered to drill the place for the owner, 5 acres, and maybe 3 acres. And we were just trying to figure out how much seed to put out!

I have started making my own seed chart for my drill, seems as how the old one is pretty much gone....

I calibrated it for Oats, and it is putting out about 2 1/2 bushels at setting "30" and "15"... So, I am planting my oats today, then tomorrow going to get it set up for barely! GO time!

Contact your extension agent. I grew in NE Washington, similar area to where you are and seeding rates were not as high as what you are being told. 60-80 lbs per acre. The rainfall just isn't there for seeding rates much higher.

Bryce where are you getting your seed and what are you paying for it? I need some oats and barley.

I got my oats from Aslin Finch in the valley, they were O K. $14 for a 50lb sack.... If you have to have "certified" seed, then everyone up here goes up to Bonner Seed and Feed. But they are usually high, just because they are the only ones up here! I would try going to Jacklin....

Not sure what he is paying for Barley, he just said that they are getting it up in Bonners...

They are a micro distillery just getting started, and want to grow their own stuff, so this summer it will be barley, and then in the fall it will be rye through the winter! I know both of the owners very well, and am more than happy to help them out, so I offered to drill the seed for them for the cost of fuel...

Man... I am such a nice guy!

When I talk to him next week I can let you know what he said price wise if you would like?

Thanks. I may give Ranier Seed a call and see what they offer also. I assume the oats you bought was just being sold as feed??

Ya, just re-cleaned feed oats... Just got my 5 acres planted now! All done! Lets Grow!
