Standing Elk

I am seeding some hay ground with a 5 seed grass mix which is mixed with rice hulls. It is recommended that I set the drill to 60# of barley per acre. My drill is calculated in quarts per acre so need to know if I am correct.
1. weight of one quart of Barley = 1.5 pounds???
2. at 1.5 pounds per quart then to drop 60# of seed per acre I would set the drill to 40 quarts per acre???
Is the above info. correct? Thanks

Quarts and bushels are a VOLUME measurement. 32 quarts per bushel. Look up weight per bushel of barley and do the math. For example oats standard is 32 lbs per bushel so one quart equals one pound.

My drill is in pecks, so always have to figure a bit. Quarts tho, that's a new one.....

You want to end up with a bu an acre setting.

Looks like 37.25 quarts is a bu. So, yes on your 40.

Be careful with some of these conversions, I got scared when you started talking about pounds..... the old ways were a volume measurement, a bu and a quart and a peck are size measurements, not weight. Looks like you got it right tho.

Same drill, some seed settings are in pecks, others are in quarts and that is due to seed size. And amount typically applyed.
