Basket Case Starter problems

I have a Auto-lite MZ4114 starter off my Case VAI that is bad and I'm wanting to convert it to 12volt. Can anyone tell me if they make a 12 volt equivalent and what the numbers would be?

Get another 6 volt starter and run it on 12 volts. Mine has been running that way for 50 years.

I can't beat 50 yrs but our VAC has been running on 12v for 40 years and never a problem as it is still going strong.

Ok I know that I could get another 6 volt. I have been doing mechanic work for over 40 years. My customer wants to go 12 volt if it is possible, because we have modified the engine it takes a little more to turn it over. this is also for the x2 and x3 and x4 guys also.

Take the 6v starter to a starter/generator repair shop and and they will convert it to 12v for about $200.

thank-you that is a start. Wa. is a long way to ship a starter. I will haveto do more research to see if maybe I can find one closer.

How badly is it destroyed, there would have to be major stuff wrong to make it not rebuildable and a 6V starter on 12 V will run circles around a 12V for cranking power. if the armature and field coils are good a local rebuilder could have it going much cheaper than replacing it.

Have been running my 6v starter on my dc since the mid 80s
and it not only still works but spins much faster and starts
better than it ever did on 6v.

We are running 2 VACs at antique tractor pulls and the engines in them are considerably larger than stock. They also are over 12
to 1 compression. We have had zero problems with the 6 volt starters and haven't even broke a spring on the drive. You will be
better off to fix what you have that converting to 12. Where are you located? There might be someone on here that is close that
has a starter if the one you have can't be fixed. Lee

I'm just North of Grand Island Ne. The starter I have is pretty much toast. The armature is badly chewed up on the end and the fields are shorted together in a couple of spots. This thing has been really hot at sometime.
