Bat wing mower

Can anyone who runs a 15 foot batwing mower tell me how many horse power are needed to run one for mowing down hay. Thank you.

A lot will depend on thje height of the hay. IF full growth so about 30-40 inches tall lots of power and if only a few inches like less than a foot tall a lot less. Sort of like the question not a lot of information. Type of hay just grass , alfalfa , or something with taller heavier weeds no saplings. All takes different amount of power. I would guess probably in the 50-100 HP range this will also depend on how fast you want to go and how short you want the stubble to be. short stubble will take a slower speed and more power.

10 HP per foot of mower is what I like. I want to be able to move right along, high 2nd or high 3rd and I want to be able to take a full pass while doing it.

Run a 15 ft woods. Mowing grass 3 ft tall i run 3 to 4 mph. Full cut. Pulling it with a caseih cx90. 90 pto.

I pull a Rhino SR15 with a Ford 6610 that’s 72 pto hp. I mostly cut 6-8 inch high for cattle to graze
I have a Rhino TW120 10 ft fixed deck I pull with my Ford 4000

If your looking at using a 4610 as your user name look at the lighter 10-12’ bat wings, 15’ batwing is to heavy for that tractor
Neighbor pulls a Land Pride 12’ bat wing with his Ford 4630

At the orchard where I work we run a Woods 15 foot batwing with a Massey 2680, about 90hp. Tall grass between rows of trees. Usually 4th or 5th gear with an 8 speed transmission. Running an old 14 foot straight frame Brush hog with a Ford 3930. Tractor handles it fine in 4th with an 8 speed, but in real tall grass I drop to 3rd, only because it doesn’t mow as clean.
