I have never tried John Deere batteries. Do they last? I am in south Texas, and the heat is hard on batteries. Are they worth the extra cost? Your comments are appreciated.

From my experience, you will have a hard time finding anything better. Texas heat or Iowa cold - I don't know which is harder on them, but mine have always lasted well.

I used the JD com 2 6 volt batteries in the Farmall 560 , no complaints .

I dont know who builds the John Deere Battery, but it must be Hi quality! Have used them in the tractors and vehicles, summer and winter, always cranked. And have lasted seven-eight years or more. Yes, worth the extra cost.

The first battery in our 2001 JD4600 started gassing badly within a year, so the dealer gave me all metal parts to replace the corroded ones around the battery. Then he gave me a JD strongbox battery, with a vent tube on it, it lasted 12 years and 2 months! the current battery is from Batteries Plus, and it has lasted over 11 years now. The tractor is kept in an unheated garage in N MN, never had a maintainer on it, and has 1550 hours on it. This a 46 hp 4-cylinder diesel tractor, and it always starts immediately.

Consumers reports has a map showing average battery life in the USA.. and in the deep southern HOT states, the avg life of bats is 3.25 years where up north it can be 7 years and longer.. Down here.... The original batteries on new cars always last longer than any replacement battery... Since cars now have little battery blankets, it seems to help a bit to protect the battery life VW used to import Bosch batteries and they lasted longer.. .up to 5 years in the heat, So they were well worth the extra $25 bucks. (now they carry interstate) Otherwise its a crap shoot. Dont know about up there though....
