battery cables

(quoted from post at 00:35:32 12/30/22) Ground cable was a flat braided type and the other one a heavy duty one about 0 gauge. But 6 volts need heavy thick cable to work

Thanks. I have the terminals/cable/crimp die to make 1ga & 2/0 battery cables. I know 6 volt systems need heavy cables but I wasn't sure if 1ga would would be big enough or not. I'll use 2/0. Can't go wrong with bigger.

I think 1 is bigger than 2 if you are making them? Question I have is the flat Braid cable equivilent to #1 or #2?Cleddy

It does not have to be a flat cable ,they san both be insulated cable 1-0 or 2-0 with(2-0 or 00) being larger cable.

2/0 is "double ought" which is bigger than "single ought" (1/0), which is bigger than 1, which is bigger than 2, .....

Flat braided wire comes in different gauges just like stranded round. The number of strands times their individual cross setional area determines the gauge.

Based on my subjective comparison the OEM wire on a Ford 8N was probably 2/0.
