battery drain

The battery on my 23 HP Kawasaki powered Ferris ISZKAV23/61 tends to drain down when shut-off. I know that I can install a disconnect. Where should I look for this drain?

Most common:
-The top of the battery if it is covered with debris. (I found this out/re-learned this- two weeks ago.)
-The voltage regulator.
-Any electronic modules in the dash.

What I do is turn my volt/ohm meter to 20volt scale, disconnect the negative (-) battery cable, and connect the meter between the cable and the battery post. Then disconnect things one at a time. When the voltage numbers drop to near zero, you have found the drain.

please note: most voltage regulators draw a tiny bit of power at all times. If there is a direct connection back to the battery positive, you can see 12v. on the charge wire when checked between the regulator plug and the battery negative post with the ignition switch off. You can put a relay in the charge wire to cut the circuit when the ignition switch is off. Power the relay from the wire to the fuel solenoid.
