Battery Drain

I got everything back together on the 800 and when I attempted to start the engine found the battery dead'er than a hammer. Put the charger on it and it fired up. Got back from Nawl'ins two days later found the battery dead again. I had it checked and was ok before I put everything back together. Read here on the forum several tests, one unpluging the alternator and this afternoon found the battery still charged. The alternator is brand new and when started shows it's charging. Got the alternator from Napa but if I have it checked will it show there's a problem with the internal regulator? I ask this because of what I've read, it being the main culpurate for draining the battery. Now I'm going back to sulking because Calipari left town. Thanks fellas for any advice.

Seen more then one new out of the box bad, that is why I have them checked before I walk out of the store. That said if it is wired wrong it will do the same thing, but with out knowing what alternator it is it is hard to help you more

Howdy old. It"s a 10SI Delco. Oh trust me, wire by wire it"s hooked up right. jnla made sure of that.

Then most likely a bad new one which is getting very common now days

If you have the #2 wire jumped to the charge stud, and the charge stud hooked into the charge system, and the #1 wire is hooked thru a switch, resistor, or lamp to the ignition switch.. then it is wired correctly. ( #1 wire can't be hot all the time or it WILL kill the battery. )

Likely one of the diodes in the trio is bad...

take 'er in for a check.

Had it checked today. Diode in trio gone. I'll pick the replacement up tomorrow and "old" I'll follow your advice, it'll be checked before I leave.

Everything is good! Battery was still charged this morning. Man! Gotta cut grass now. Forgot about that. Thanks fella"s.
