hi all, hope to get a quick tutoring on an issue ive been having on my tractor, the battery registers 12-13 volts when ignition is on but when i turn the key she gives a few slow cranks then clicks, when i put the jumper cables on from my truck she fires rite up and i put the voltage tester on it and have 14+ , what am i not getting???
thank you in advance for the info

And it that doesn't help do the same at the other end of both cables, at the ground and starter or relay. Then the cable from the relay to the starter if it has one.

Do you have the cables with the ends that are clamped to the cable with bolts? If so, take the cable ends off and clean them.

I had this same thing happen a few months ago. The battery showed 13 or 14 but when you went to start it, the volts dropped to 6 or 7 and barely spun the tractor a couple of times. Replaced the battery and starts just fine.

Along with cleaning both ends of the cables and their connection points (ground cable should hook to the chassis not sheet metal), feel the connection points right after cranking. A connection, warmer than the others, can indicate an internal problem with a cable. Have the battery load tested. What is the voltage reading at the starter when cranking compared to voltage at the battery while cranking, not just ignition on (voltage drop tests).

An easy test is to make sure it is in neutral, and put your volt meter leads directly on the battery posts, not the clamps, then try to start it. If the voltage goes down below 10 volts, I suspect the battery. if it stays above 12.4 or so I suspect cables or connections in the heavy wires/cables. After the test, feel (carefully) for heat in any cables or ends. Jim

thanks all for the advice, ill do my cable end cleaning and see what happens, the battery is only a few yrs old and i believe ir ran me 250+, hope it dosnt need to be replaced,
