Most try and get one around 900-1000. I guess you are asking about going to a single 12v?

The highest CCA battery that will fit in the battery box is the correct choice.
Bolt the ground/chassis connection to a sturdy casting instead of to sheet metal.

thank you all. the 12v battery I have is nowhere near 900-1000. it doesn't get the job done. I might get a small 12v and connect them in parallel.

Optima Red Top works fine, was in a race car for two years, then on the engine stand for the past two seasons, now in the old tractor w/8:1 comp ratio.

Group 65 or group 24 will work. The 65 battery is a lower profile, so its fits in the box better. Both groups are car batteries, if you are using the tractor on rough ground you might go for a tractor battery.
