Battery for MF1105

Hi
I am sending this message to look for a great recommendation of energy efficient battery for my Massey Ferguson 1105 . I contacted a family business company that sells parts also for Massey Ferguson tractor, they seem to suggest that there should be two batteries, at opposite end, but I didnt see any other terminal to hook a battery at the other end, in fact the battery we use to start it when we are buying it was removed from a car and I dont think that is great fit for it, that was my reason to look for a good one that is recommended for the tractor, thanks

Your question should be on the Massey Ferguson Forum. It may be better answered if you post there, where the focus is that brand of tractor, rather than this one which focuses on trucks, trailers, and transportation related topics.

The dealer you talked to is correct, the 1105 parts book shows it was originally equipped with two batteries. I haven't been able to cross the Massey part number to a common group/size. Someone on the MF Forum may know the size and rating of the original batteries. Lacking that, what physical size will fit in the battery box, the highest CCA (cold cranking amps) rating you can get in that size, and your normal ambient temperature range, you should be able to pick a battery. What is your general location? Starting power requirements are different in southern Florida and northern Maine,, for example, due to the differences in temperatures at times during the year.

As Jim said, it calls for 2 batteries. There is one on each side of the tractor under the platform and behind the steps that swing out. I use 2 group 30 or 31 in our 1135. If your weather doesn't get too cold you could get by with just 1.

Measure your battery box (es) first. Commonly used batteries
have changed a bit since your tractor was made. There are
some battery specification resources available by googling
battery group sizes. Pay attention to not only LxWxH
dimensions, but also post location. We’ve converted
everything we could (based on size) to Group 31 batteries. I
believe our White 2-105 would be similar in battery
requirements. Replaced original 2 battery system with a single
GP31. Started well in all weather. Make certain all cables are
in good shape, clean and tight (at all ends)

I have two group 31 batteries in my 1105, one on each side under the platform, they swing out on the side doors. As shown in the parts diagram, separate cables run from each battery to the starter solenoid.

Unless it takes a tremendous amount of juice to start it one single group 31 stud top battery will start it. We start our 1466 with just one and it would have come with 2 back in the day. this is in winter of 20degrees F or enen colder. If it gets much below 30 we plug them in it is so much easier on starting and the engine since the oil starts flowing over a semi warm engine right away.
