Battery powered mowers...

Lowes is selling two types of walk-behind mowers. One is 40 volts and the other is 80 volts. When Lowes put them on display, I wondered where they were going to sell all the ones that they had in stock as there is little to no grass in front yards in this area.

To my surprise they sold out the first shipment and brought in another large batch. It looks like the 80 volt mowers are outselling the 40 volt mowers. There must be more people with grass in their backyards that I thought.

Has anyone bought one? What is your opinion?

Just curious; we have crushed rock in front yard with crushed rock and artificial turf in the backyard - so have no need for a mower.

My sister just bought one. She has a small yard and lives in Columbus Ohio. So she will have some decent grass to mow. She did not want to deal with gas and the fumes. She ran it a little bit so far. She seemed to like it. But time will tell. Hers is not self propelled. I wonder about long term battery life ? I have very little luck with anything rechargeable having any life at all.
I also figure disposing of all the batteries will have a greater toll on the environment than burning gas !

Years ago my dad bought a electric riding mowrr, 3 12 volt batteries. Neighbor lady bought an electric push mower years ago. Both electric mowers were problematic. Battery issues. Dads rider had three electric motors. Each blade was connected to mower blade. Hit a rock would jar the magnets loose.

You could not give me an electric mower. Sooner or later, battery will need replaced.

Dads rider only lasted a few years before it was junk.

Actually, you have a good point. My job transferred me to Prescott, Arizona, back in the mid 1970's. We lived there for almost 5 years before I got transferred east. We bought a new house in Prescott and, being from the Midwest, I immediately planted a grass lawn in front. Had to water it every 2 days during the almost 7 month growing season except when it rained lots during the July-August monsoon season. The lack of abundant water is now and was then an issue. Even in the 70's, our monthly water bill was expensive, but we lived with it. Today I would not plant a lawn there and would probably squint at folks running a sprinkler often. The lack of water has forced many communities to resort to odd/even watering days, no car washing, and other steps. Oh, no lawn, no need for a lawn mower, battery powered or otherwise.

HERE YA GO!!! Sa these a couple of days ago and now I can use them. Abandoned speed boat and how low the lake is. Don't forget they need to let out water for the fish! I really hope it gets low enough so they can pull the B-29 out of the lake!

Is that 92F on the sonar picture the water temperature? I think it's warm around here when my boat shows Puget Sound water temperature at 63F.

Stihl has a 36 volt battery powered push mower. From what I have read it mows about a half hour on a fully charged battery.

I would guess air temp. Do a google on Lake Mead B-29. Ton of stuff pops up. The way the water is going you might be able to walk out to it!

There were several WWII Navy aircraft crashed in Lake Washington, just east of Seattle. One of them, a FG-1D Corsair, was recovered, restored and is on display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. The cold deep waters of Lake Washington, coupled with the relatively controlled water landing, meant the airplane didn't break up and was preserved almost intact for over 30 years.

I bought a used push electric mower for trimming. I have a lot of pine trees with to the ground limbs to trim under. The only complaint I have with it is that it is rather heavy.

lowes sold electric powered rider a few years back. doubled as generator. They weren't very popular, a coupla months later we went and picked the ones we sold back up.
