battery removal

I know I've read on this forum on which cable to remove first so it won't interfere with the voltage regulator but, I can't remember where I read it. Sooo Which one to remove first HOT or GROUND on Farmall Super A? Thanks for your help. Pembroke

Same as Rusty, I always first remove the FRAME GROUNDED cable, be it pos or neg ground system. I don't view it as any Voltage Regulator issue, but that way if your wrench accidentally hits the tractor there's no voltage nor any potential high current high heat very dangerous arc and spark. If you first had your wrench on the hot ungrounded cable and it got against the tractor OUCH !!!!!!!!!!

REMOVE THE FRAME GROUNDED CABLE FIRST is my practice and advice FWIW

I agree with John T, It makes no difference from a running perspective which cable is removed, but from safety perspective, remove ground first so a slipped wrench will not short anything.

It is always best to remove the ground first that way your less likely to hit the wrench in something and then short out the battery and cause lots of spark and maybe even a battery exploding. A tractor does not care which one you unhook first but would you believe on many of the new cars you can fry the computer unless you unhook the battery the way the manual say to do it

Ground to frame cable first. Otherwise you might find out that little
open end is about a 600 amp fuseable link. My dad found that out once
on a 460. Didn't watch which cable he was messing with. Had to wack it
away with another tool. Wrench was never the same. Tossed it.

who cares about the voltage regulator... it dont care.. its your fingers that might care. many fingers have been fryed because of wearing a ring and it shorted out to ground with the wrench . disconnect the ground first always and hook it up last.
