Battery size

Got a MF 30B tractor with Perkins 3.152 diesel. The battery is getting kinda weak in the cold weather, so I want to replace it. The old battery has no group size marking on it, and anyways it's likely not the "right" size; there's enough room for up to a 3 inch longer battery.

The funny thing is, the manual specifies a 95 amp hour battery, but amp hours are really more relevant to deep cycle RV and marine applications, not engine cranking applications. I'm wondering if Perkins has a more up-to-date spec on how many CCA this engine requires?

Here's a chart of the group size dimensions.

You can go through the sizes and have some idea what you have and what you are looking for.

Not all will be commonly stocked. 24 and 27 are popular sizes, the suffix letter is usually post position and type.

Go with the highest amp rating you can find.

Install the highest CCA and highest AH battery that can be crammed in there .
Replace the cables too with 1/0 or 2/00 . They may look good but are probably rotten .
Run the ground cable direct to a starter mounting bolt .
